When leadership at Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South cut the ribbon on their new headquarters in January 2023, the organization was sending a strong signal: They meant business. It was

JA celebrated the opening of its new Binghampton headquarters on Jan. 20. The Wang Experiential Learning Center (516 Tillman) is named for Memphis entrepreneur and philanthropist Robert Wang and his wife Susan.

The center serves K-12 students teaching real-life skills. President Leigh Mansberg said, “You can’t have a strong city without healthy business, but you can’t build a strong business without a strong city.”

Three years in as president and CEO of Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South, Mansberg has unleashed her own entrepreneurial bent to reshape the way JA works, digging down to formularize the can-do and entrepreneurial energy that was simply the air she breathed in Pine Bluff.

Startup Park by FedEx is a program for 5th and 6th graders where students interact with local startups led by black, brown, and women entrepreneurs in the early stages of their businesses.

Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South built a city that models all the careers that students can aspire to have as adults, and they run the city during a five-hour simulation.
